Sergio de la Peña, an Army Colonel who says he worked and campaign for President Trump is running for Governor of Virginia as a Republican.

De la Peña was born in Mexico and says he came to the United States legally.

His website says that the Trump Administration appointed him to help oversee the Western Hemisphere at the Pentagon.

The Colonel wrote that he is running for Governor because he “believes socialists and Northern Virginia liberals are ruining the Commonwealth. He believes the American Dream is under assault from the far-left seeking to destroy this country by attacking our freedoms and values.”

He also campaigned for President Trump in 2016 and 2020.

“I campaigned for Trump in 2016 and 2020, and the administration tapped me to help run the Western Hemisphere,” said de la Peña on his website. “I’ve seen firsthand the horrors of socialism and understand we must stop the far-left from turning Virginia socialist. Let them try and cancel me.”

De la Pena is a Fairfax resident. He is a competing against state Senator Amanda Chase (Chesterfield) and Delegate Kirk Cox (Colonial Heights) for the Republican nomination.
