In a joint effort, the Democratic gubernatorial nominee Terry McAuliffe, the Democratic Governors Association (DGA), and The Virginia League of Conservation Voters PAC (VALCV-PAC) are launching targeted TV and digital ads across Virginia with a focus on climate in the final days of this election.

A 15-second ad paid for by McAuliffe and VALCV-PAC highlights, in part, his support for clean energy. “Terry McAuliffe is for clean energy and listening to science,” the narrator says. It also highlights McAuliffe’s support of COVID-19 vaccines and expanding Pre-K, with an honorable mention at the end showing Trump supporters while the narrator says “he’s not for these guys, or this one” when a picture of Donald Trump flashed on the screen.

In a different ad from DGA, they highlight Republican gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin’s comments when he was recently pressed on his beliefs about climate change.

“Do you believe the actions of mankind are responsible for climate change,” the narrator asked Youngkin during a town hall earlier this month. The ad then shows Youngkin saying, “I don’t know what’s responsible for climate change.”

During that town hall, Youngkin was pressed more directly on if he believes humans are responsible for climate change. “We all live here, and we basically have a climate challenge so I guess all living beings, all living things have a role,” Youngkin said. “Rather than play the blame game, let’s go fix it.”

McAuliffe has released a plan that he says would bring Virginia to 100% clean energy by the year 2035. “We have made great progress in Virginia but must continue to act, and that’s exactly what I’ll do as governor,” McAuliffe said in a statement with the two new ads. “We’re going to get Virginia to 100% clean energy by 2035 by partnering with President Biden and investing critical federal dollars,” he said in March of this year alongside Hampton Roads Delegates Shelly Simonds and Alex Askew.

According to the McAuliffe campaign, these ads will be airing through election day. Both nominees raised astronomical sums of money during the first three weeks of October giving them the ability to hammer each other across all media platforms in the final six days of the race.

The digital ads, running on Facebook, Google, Hulu, Roku, MiQ and Youtube, will run from now through Election Day. Television ads will also run in Washington D.C., Richmond and Norfolk media markets.

Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 2.
