Virginia has not been immune as COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the country. Overall, Virginia’s cases are not rising at an alarming rate but they are trending in a bad direction. Right now the Commonwealth is seeing a 7-day average of around 1500 new cases per day.

As the numbers rise and likely continue to rise over the holidays when people gather indoors, we want to keep communities informed of the conditions in their communities. Starting today, we will begin publishing updates for individual communities. Like our page on Facebook or check back here to see the updates when they are published.

11/17 Update: Mathews County

Mathews County currently has reported 149 total cases of COVID-19 according to the Virginia Department of Health. This is only an increase of three positive cases in three days, while at the same time Virginia saw close to an increase of 5,000 new cases in the same time frame. Of those 149 cases, only 12 people have been hospitalized in total. However, the Virginia Department of Health reported the first COVID-19 related death in Mathews County in the last three days.

On Friday, we will provide the three-day changes that took place in Mathews County. Check back for details. You can also see the new restrictions that were put in place by Governor Northam on Friday here.
