Amanda Chase, a Republican candidate for Governor in 2021 said on Monday that she will only be seeking the Republican nomination if they choose a candidate with a primary election, not a convention.

She implied that she will run as an independent if the Republican Party of Virginia decides to choose a candidate by convention.

The rundown:

  • Andria McClellan, who currently serves on the Norfolk city council, is planning on officially announcing her candidacy for Lieutenant Governor this week. She has been exploring a potential run for LG since the summer.
  • Multiple sources have reported that Pete Snyder, a potential Republican candidate for Governor is strongly considering entering the race in the near future.
  • Glenn Youngkin, another potential Republican candidate for Governor has also increased the staffing around him in recent weeks as he is expected to run for the office.
  • Amanda Chase came out strongly against the legalization of marijuana on Monday. “Let me just be very clear on my position,” said Chase. “Absolutely not.”
