A new PAC in Virginia received more than $1 million from pro-life groups that say they are “at the forefront of the fight against Planned Parenthood, biased liberal media, Big Tech, and making sure elections are transparent, fair, and accurate.”
Women Speak out Virginia – 2021 recently received a $942,000 donation from the Restoration PAC, a fiercely pro-life group.
A partner for the national Women Speak Out group is Susan B Anthony List, a nonprofit seeking to end abortion in America. “SBA List is a family of organizations, an arsenal designed not to hurt but to heal; not to shame but to shield,” the SBA List website reads. “We combine politics with policy, investing heavily in voter education to ensure that pro-life Americans know where their lawmakers stand on protecting the unborn.”
SBA List also provided the only other donation for this new Virginia group with $275,000.
A PAC in Virginia existed prior to 2014 with a similar title only omitting the “2021.”
Virginia Scope contacted SBA List to inquire about the purpose of Women Speak Out Virginia – 2021 but was transferred to an individual that did not answer.
“The agenda of these groups is to outlaw abortion like in Texas,” said Jamie Lockhart, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia. “They think that with enough money, they can buy this election and reverse the progress we have made. It is essential that Virginians, the majority of whom support safe, legal abortion, turnout to vote for reproductive rights champions this year.”
Abortion has been a prominent issue during this election cycle ever since the Republican gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin was secretly filmed saying he cannot run on abortion and win in Virginia.
The conversation was amplified again in September when the six-week abortion ban in Texas went into effect. Youngkin has since said he would support a ban on abortion when pain can be felt, typically around the 20-week mark. He also has said he opposes including the right to an abortion in the Virginia Constitution.
Democratic nominee Terry McAuliffe has said that he supports the laws already on the books and would be a brick wall against any new restrictions.
Virginia is electing 100 delegates for the House along with a governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general next month.
Election day is Nov 2.
