Terry McAuliffe (D) is launching a new television ad this week targeting his opponent’s ties to Wall Street.

Glenn Youngkin, the Republican gubernatorial nominee, has often boasted about his experience at the global investment firm The Carlyle Group. He rose through the ranks to eventually run the company helping him amass a personal fortune on the way up. He now says

McAuliffe is using that against him now.

“Glenn Youngkin made over $500 million as a Wall Street executive, and now he’s running for governor to help them, not you,” the narrator for the McAuliffe ad says.

“This entire ad is a lie. But it shouldn’t surprise voters that Terry McAuliffe is resorting to lies–he says he’s for working families but his vision for Virginia’s future will leave us with failing schools, an abysmal economy, and closed prisons and defunded police,” said Devin O’Malley, a spokesperson for Youngkin. “Glenn is from a working-class Virginia family and is the only candidate that worked his way up to the top of a company and helped grow it into a hugely successful enterprise that turned good businesses into great businesses, helped create tens of thousands of jobs, and funded the retirement pension of police officers, firefighters, and teachers.”

Princess Blanding, an Independent candidate is also in the race and will be on the ballot.

Early voting begins Sept. 17 for the Nov. 2 election.
