Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia (Goodwill), a nonprofit organization with a mission to help people help themselves through the power of work, announced the reopening of its Petersburg location today. Following the location’s extensive damage due to arson last fall, Goodwill has taken this time to update the store to provide a new and improved retail experience for the Petersburg community.
Improvements made to the retail location include all new flooring, ceiling tiles, paint, lighting and branding for a refreshed shopping experience in addition to all new (donated) merchandise within 9,500 square feet of shopping space. Goodwill also updated the store layout for browsing great products and treasure hunting while maintaining social distancing.
“We are grateful for the community’s patience during this time as our Petersburg location has remained closed due to arson in late 2020,” Vice President of Donated Goods Retail Desmond Carter said. “We have taken this opportunity to create a silver lining in an unfortunate situation by bringing a new and improved experience to our shoppers and donors in Petersburg.”
Fortunately, because Goodwill operates 17 retail locations in the area, no employees were let go during the more than 90-day closure as the nonprofit was able to find opportunities for them within the network.
“Our retail stores are the backbone of the generated revenue that drives our mission of providing free job training to those in need, so we are thrilled to reopen today to continue helping people help themselves through the power of work,” Carter continued. “As one of our busiest stores in Central Virginia, we know the closure of this store also impacted many locals looking for affordable items and we look forward to welcoming them back to Petersburg.”
The Petersburg location is located at 65 Crater Circle and is open Monday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for shopping and donating. Masks are required in all Goodwill stores.
